Each strap is made from Biothane webbing and installs via Chicago screws at the attachment points on each side of the basket, creating a third anchoring point over the top of the dog's head. All straps are adjustable and removable as standard, with a permanent rivet installation available on request.

When a Head Strap Makes a Difference

The Muzzle Movement's basket muzzles are complete and functional without a head strap. However, a third attachment point becomes valuable in a range of professional scenarios — high-energy or reactive dogs, animal control and shelter intake situations, extended outdoor or trail work, and any context where muzzle shift could compromise safety. The head strap prevents rotational movement, forward shift, and vertical drift, keeping the basket positioned correctly regardless of what the dog is doing.

Color & Customization

Head straps are stocked in black Biothane as standard. Custom colors to match specific muzzle configurations are available by special order — contact us to discuss requirements and lead times.

Maintenance

Chicago screw tightness should be checked weekly during the first month of use, as active dog movement can gradually loosen fasteners. Once optimal fit is confirmed, applying a medium-strength threadlocker such as Loctite to the screw threads before final tightening will prevent loosening while still allowing removal if needed. Clean Biothane straps with mild soap and water as required — the material is water-resistant and low maintenance.

Important Note on Cropped Ears

Dogs with cropped ears may experience reduced stabilization benefit from a head strap, as the strap relies on the ear base for anchoring. Contact us before ordering if this applies to dogs in your care.
