Under-Chin Stabilizer Loop for Muzzle Movement Muzzles
This optional accessory provides additional muzzle stability by creating an anchoring point between your dog's muzzle and their existing collar. The chin loop addresses the natural movement that occurs during panting, reducing bounce and shift for dogs who are particularly active or whose handlers prefer maximum security.
Understanding Muzzle Movement During Use
The Muzzle Movement's basket muzzles are engineered to allow unrestricted panting, which is essential for thermoregulation and your dog's comfort. This necessary internal clearance means the basket may exhibit some natural movement on the dog's face during vigorous panting or active movement. For most dogs and situations, this minor shifting is completely normal and doesn't compromise function or safety.
However, certain circumstances benefit from additional stabilization:
- High-energy dogs engaging in running, jumping, or vigorous play while muzzled
- Training situations where minimal distraction from muzzle movement is desired
- Handlers who prefer maximum security and minimal equipment shift
- Dogs whose head shape or movement patterns cause more basket bounce than average
- Professional settings where stationary equipment appearance is important
How the Chin Loop Functions
The chin loop creates a three-point stabilization system by connecting the underside of the muzzle basket to your dog's collar:
Attachment Points: The loop fastens to the bottom band of your dog's muzzle basket using Chicago screw attachments, positioning directly under the chin area.
Collar Integration: The loop passes through your dog's existing collar, creating an anchor point that prevents upward movement of the muzzle's bottom edge.
Movement Reduction: By securing the basket from underneath, the loop counteracts the natural tendency of the muzzle to bounce or shift during panting and activity, while still allowing the necessary internal space for jaw movement and airflow.
Proper Sizing for Collar Compatibility
The chin loop must be sized to accommodate your dog's collar width, including any hardware that will pass through the loop opening:
Standard Size: Accommodates collars up to 5 centimeters (approximately 2 inches) wide. This size fits most standard flat collars, including the buckle hardware that must pass through the loop during installation.
Large Size: Designed for collars up to 7 centimeters (approximately 2.75 inches) wide. Appropriate for wider collars commonly used on large or giant breed dogs, or specialty collars with substantial buckle hardware.
Measurement Instructions: Measure the width of your dog's collar at its widest point, which typically includes the buckle assembly. If your collar has a particularly bulky buckle or D-ring attachment, measure across this hardware to ensure the loop will accommodate it during installation.
Installation Process
Adding a chin loop to your Muzzle Movement muzzle requires Chicago screw fasteners:
- Position the chin loop on the underside bottom band of the muzzle basket where you want it located
- Insert Chicago screws through the loop attachment points and corresponding holes in the basket band
- Tighten screws securely using finger pressure
- Thread your dog's collar through the loop opening (you may need to unbuckle the collar first)
- Re-buckle collar and adjust muzzle fit as needed
- Verify all screws remain tight after initial use and adjustment
Universal Compatibility
While designed specifically for The Muzzle Movement muzzles, this chin loop accessory can be adapted for use with other basket muzzle brands that have appropriate attachment points on the bottom band. The Chicago screw fastening system provides flexibility in installation positioning.

Maintenance and Care
Chicago Screw Monitoring: The removable screw fasteners that attach the chin loop can gradually loosen with repeated stress from your dog's movement. Check screw tightness weekly, especially during the first month of use.
Securing Installation: Once you've confirmed optimal positioning and fit, apply a small amount of medium-strength threadlocker (such as Loctite) to the screw threads before final tightening. This prevents loosening while still allowing future removal if necessary.
Cleaning: Wipe the Biothane loop material with mild soap and water as needed. The material is water-resistant and dries quickly.
Collar Compatibility Check: Periodically verify that your dog's collar remains compatible if you change collar styles, as different collar widths may require switching to the alternate chin loop size.
When a Chin Loop May Not Be Necessary
Many dogs wear Muzzle Movement muzzles successfully without chin loop stabilization. Consider whether you actually need this accessory:
- If your dog's muzzle stays in position adequately during normal activity, additional stabilization may be unnecessary
- For short-duration muzzle use (veterinary visits, grooming), the standard fit is typically sufficient
- Some dogs find the additional strap under their chin uncomfortable or distracting
- Simpler equipment configurations often work better for muzzle training and conditioning
The chin loop is an optional enhancement, not a required component for proper muzzle function.
