Handling Poles

Freeman Leash Pole
The Freeman Leash Pole from acclaimed product engineer and long-time ACO Peter Freeman is an aluminum pole with an integrated slip-lead. This tool is an excellent bridge between a leash and a control pole and can be effectively used on high-arousal, fearful, and behaviorally suspect/uncertain dogs. This tool can be safely and effectively used both in the field and in the shelter.
The dual nature of this tool allows it to transition between a leash and something akin to a control pole. However, the simple rope build makes it easy to make quick adjustments so that handlers can balance control with comfort.
The small, attached cord allows the pole to be used vertically prior to placement on the dog's neck. Hands-free removal is a learned skill, but the large ring ordinarily makes this a simple process. For ease of removal, you can also consider clipping a leash (we recommend the Field Pro Leash) to the ring prior to application.
