John is always looking for a better way to do things. Whether he’s working in the field, training a team, or tackling an organizational challenge, he’s curious about what works, what doesn’t, and why.

Over more than two decades in animal welfare, that curiosity has taken him from shelter and field operations to disaster response, humane capture, population management, training, and equipment development around the world. Along the way, he’s worked with organizations including [Humane World for Animals, Greater Good Charities, Battersea — JOHN: add/correct here].

His experience is just as varied. He’s helped rescue dogs from South Korean dog meat farms, led animal disaster response efforts following the Maui wildfires, and worked alongside animal welfare teams in communities around the world. [JOHN: add your favorite wild examples ... Ukraine, ??.]

But for John, the work has never been only about the animals. He cares just as much about the people doing the work — giving them better tools, better training, and more options to make safer, more humane decisions. And just as importantly, building teams and systems that take care of those people so they can keep doing this work for the long haul.

He’s also a bit obsessive about equipment. If a tool works, he wants to understand why. If it doesn’t, he wants to improve it. And if what he needs doesn’t exist, there’s a pretty good chance he’ll try to build it.

That curiosity is still at the heart of Humane Innovations today — from the equipment we carry and develop to the way John approaches training and consulting.
